thebullit, if the female does lay a clutch, I would break off a small piece of the clutch and hatch that, rather than hatching the whole clutch. You can freeze the rest to humanely euthanize the eggs. Even though it's your first clutch, and everyone is thrilled about their first clutch, once the hundreds of baby snails hatch you might not be so thrilled.
As far as sexing a snail, Terri has the best photo guide I've seen yet.
You pick up the snail and hold it with its face (or shell door) facing you, and wait for it to come out and stretch downward toward your hand. Some people have good luck getting their snails to come out above water. I have better luck holding them underwater. Then you just look for the.. well, the goods, or lack thereof.
Here's the photo guide:

How much do you have to lower the water for the clutch to survive?

flarringshutter is rite on how to sex your apples, i have used this technic out of water to determaine mine. you can also try looking at http://www.tronchaser.com/~cindi/ss.html.
i would and have lowered my water level 5" which will be plenty of room.
would the remaining clutch hatch if i broke some off??? i thort that woud kill off them all.

nope! If you do it when the clutch is new enough it will be very easy. Best way to do it is with an old credit card or piece of cardstock. Just cut about 3/4 the way along the clutch as if you were cutting it with a knife, and freeze the larger part. The remaining eggs will be totally fine.

how long after mating should i expect her to lay any eggs.
also it was the 1st time they have mated in my care, and since there 1st encounter yesterday, they have mated 3 times. do they do this until she is fertile or is the male now hungry now hes started. so to speak..

They'll probably mate until the female gets sick of him and pushes him off. Male brigs are notorious for mating with anything and everything, multiple times per day, until they get the boot.
How long it will take her to lay eggs depends on how the female is feeling. Female brigs can store sperm for up to a month, so it may be only a few days or a few weeks until you see a clutch. Just drop the water level a couple inches, do a large water change to encourage her to lay, and wait.

Hooray! That looks like a nice, small clutch.
If you're planning on hatching this clutch, I'd gently break off a small piece of only 20 or so eggs, put it on a piece of styrofoam floating in the tank, mist the eggs with some water, and lay plastic wrap over the eggs. Lift the wrap once a week and mist the eggs again. Within a couple weeks the babies should hatch and climb down into the water.

Yup, the eggs need humidity to hatch.
Congratulations on the eggs.

wouldnt they hatch if i just left them there with the humidity off the tank?
mist the eggs, as in a gentle spray of water on them?

Cool!
I wonder how many snails will come from a clutch like that. Good luck.
Yeah I'm pretty sure misting would be just spraying water on them. You would probably want to use the tank water, but thats just a guess.

Yes, mist them with tank water from a spray bottle. if you dont have a spare one you can usually get them from the dollar store or at drug stores.
they might hatch if you left them where they are, but they're pretty high above the water line. they need high humidity to hatch, and even if they were at the water line, im not sure they'd have enough humidity.
hey there goliath! good to see you. look at all the snaily friends we have here at aquariacentral! i'm impressed and excited at all these snail enthusiasts. :)

great! sounds good. if you want to slow down the mating, drop the tank temperature and it should cool things off. good luck with the clutch! keep us updated.
