So I am starting a 29gal tank, I am now starting to fill it up with water to do a fishless cycling. So I have read up on doing fishless cycling, and wanted to make sure I understand correct, and please tell me if I leave out anything or am doing something wrong. So I fill up the tank with with water..duh...then do I add in tap water conditioners. Then do I add in API Stress Zyme-biological Filtration Booster? or do I leave the water just like it is, but just add in tap cond.? Then I read about going to a grocery store like Harris Teeter and buying pure ammonia, then you add that in about a tablespoon at a time to your ammonia levels get around 5-7 then keep it like that for around a week, then let the filter to do its work? Is that correct steps or am I forgetting something or doing something wrong...PLEASE HELP!!!
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!:help2::feedback:

that's correct.. but leave out the stress zyme.. there's a lot of confusion about whether it works or not.. most people say it's more trouble than it's worth. its cheaper to just find some gravel from a tank at your LFS.. even then if you can't do that, don't worry about it, you dont need it, it just speeds up the process.

Ok well I have a nearly if not an established tank (10gal.) the fish are living in it fine, the last time I check (a week ago) the readings were 0 ammonia and around 7.2 for ph, sorry I dont currently have the other test kit. soon to make a visit to get some at PetSmart or PetCo but the closest one is an hour away :( . But can I take half of established filter cart. and put it into the new 29gal cart, and then put the other half into a new filter media for the 10gal? (hope that made since). And if I can do I still add in ammonia? Im still a little confused. But I want to do it as quick as I can but the right way, because like I said near Fish Shop is 1 hour and I dont want dead fish and have to drive back to return the dead fish, so I want to do it right.

Thanks

OK well i got my tank filled up with water and added in tap conditioner, but the water lookes cloudy, is this normal for a new aquarium. Also it has lots of tiny bubbles stuck to the side of the tank is this also normal?

If you are doing a fishless cycle you will still need to add an ammonia source even if you use established media from your 10g tank. The bacteria built up in the filter media will just help jump start the whole process and probably take acouple weeks or so off the cycle time.

So before you add the media from the 10g to your 29g be sure you have some ammonia to add to the 29g to get it around the 4-5ppm range. I use ammonia from Ace Hardware (Janitorial Stregth Formula).Just be sure whatever ammonia you get is pure and doesnt suds up when you shake the bottle. Then after the ammonia has been added you can add the media from the 10g to the 29g filter.

What kind of substrate are you using in it? If gravel then maybe you didnt rinse it good.It should clear up over time as it settles and gets filtered. The bubbles are fine and should also go away with time.

Are you talking about my tap water condictioner?

The water is getting clearer, its been about 5 hrs. now and there is still some bubbles on the side of the tank, but not as many as they were, is this norm?
