one quick ?
on the box of the Fluorescent light that i have it says the 40W bulb is = to 175 watt reg bulb. so when someone says 2-5 watts are they talking about Fluorescent or reg. i have a 100 gal tank and i am trying to figure out the lighting.

Sorry 'bout the rewrite, if you didn't know what those abbreviations were, you might get confused.

Price of bulbs and fixtures varies due to location and seller. Some setups, like Metal Halides and some Power Compacts, can give off a great deal of heat. Most will need, and come with, a special ballast. Consider available space and cooling needs when determining your light type and wattage.

Realistically, most plants that you're going to be growing will be more than happy at about 3 watts per gallon. At +/- 100 gallons, a single 250 watt fixture and light should set you up nicely.
