My brother wants to set up a terrarium(at least 10g) with 2 FBTs and some kind of tree frog.. I would, or course, be taking care of the cleaning and managing of the tank.
Are FBTs compatable with tree frogs? if not, he wanted a FBN(newt) to go with them..

Also.. what can I do to heat the tank at night without a heat lamp?

the FBTs and the tree frogs and the FNB Newt are very compatable but if want to have more then two frogs your going to need a larger tank. Or you could do one FBT and one tree frog. and for the heat i would use a under the tank heating pad because thats i use for my Toads. Hope this helps.

Fire Bellied toads give off a poison that can make other frogs and amphibians that use the same water sick. It's not really a great idea to mix them with anything in such a small enviornment.

What about the newts? I've always seen the housed with FBTs.
OR, 3 ADFs and a FBN, the tank will hold about 7g if there is no tree frog.

No, firebelly toads should not be mixed with tree frogs. The tree frog would eventually eat the toad, or be poisoned. Newts are sometimes set up with firebellys but I think a 10 gallon is way to small, they need a lot of water to swim. Also the toads take off the newts limbs sometimes so its not recommened. They could also poison each other, so its your call, but DEFIANTLY NOT with a tree frog!!

What about mixing a FBN with a couple ADFs?
I'm trying to inform my brother on what to not get mainly.. he was trying to mix whites tree frogs with a FBT and a couple crabs :thud:

Yeah that definatly wont work, the whites would get poisoned eventually. Newts give off poison too that could kill the adf's, their 100% underwater anyways as newts are not. Try to talk your brother into a species only tank and tell him even if he does mix them, he may lose an animal he really likes.

when i was younger i had a 20 long gallon tank with a green tree frog and a fire belly with a Asian floating frog and a African dwarf clawed frog and they all got along. And my tree frog never tried to eat my fire belly toad.
And the toads are only poisons if you other tank inhabitants try to eat them or the shed there slime coat.

O ya the tank was half land half water to.

If I can get him to upgrade to something like a 20L could he get a pair of whites tree frogs? He liked them because they were called "Dumpy tree frogs" at petsmart :shakehead:

A 20 gallon high would be better. They are a tree frog so they need a high tank with plenty of stuff to climb on.
