Hello, need help.
30G tank, 2 discus and 3 angels
Discus develops fungus, white stuff mostly on the eyes.
Water changes every 4 days, fungus goes away and then comes back again.
Added some organic fungus meds.
Checked ph of the Tap is at 7
PH in the tank always shows 6 or less, my test goes down to 6.
Maybe the meds affected the test.
25 to 50 % water changes.
Amonia and other test show normal.
using an Aquaclear 200 filter.
Do you guys think I should change to a can filter?

Too many fish in the tank. Put the angels elsewhere.

What temp is the water kept at?

For sure get a handle on the pH issues.

Hello there, are you sure its fungus? And by saying water parameters are normal do you mean ammonia and nitrites = zero? Because some fish can develop a hazy looking eye (w/c may be mistaken for fungus) if water conditions are not good.

Good Luck :grinyes:

I forgot to add- if you take out the angels and crank the tank temp into high 80s-low 90s F and add salt- it should take care of the fungus. Discus can take it real warm and real salty for a while as well. I have treated discus at 92F and with 3 cups, yes cups, of salt/10 gals. That is way, way more salt than you need here. Clear the fungus med w/ carbon and a big wc first if you elect to go this route. Live plants may also not be happy with salt though most cant tolerate it for medicinal purposes for a brief period. Remember that the only way to get salt out is via water changes :-)

I agree with khombre, are you sure it's fungus and not just cloudy eye which would be from water quality issues? Fungus is usually a tufty growth and usually doesn't just go away for a couple of days and then come back. The fact that you say once you do a water change it subsides, but then comes back leads me to believe it is cloudy eye. Up your water change routine. Discus require clean water, clean water, clean water and more clean water. You don't say how often you change the water but you should be changing it at least twice a week, three times a week would be better. I agree with TwoTank.....find another tank for those angels. That tank's not big enough for 2 discus and 3 angels.

Thank you guys, I do the WC 2 times a week, 20-50%.
temp is at 86, I think it might be fungus because i found it on some of my plastic plants.
I will be getting a 55 GL tank soon.
What happens if I add another filter? Will that help with the water quality?

Fungus can't grow on plastic plants.

It looks like a web on some plants, what is it?
I had it removed and did daily WC, much better, but the dicus develop cloudy eye and white stuff in the midle.

treat as two tanks has suggested. it is a standard course of treatment for discus.it is very effective for them.

with angels and discus mixed in a small tank you run the risk of aggression by the angels.

in the 55 they would be better..
when adding angels with discus please be aware of special attention to the mix.
angels tend to be more aggressive. and may out compete young discus for food.

discus should be fed several times a day when young and all uneaten food removed(small partial water changes.)

the salt will combat bacterial infection and is a safe course of action for discus.(works for most fish btw)

Thank you, I have tried to add some salt, will see what happens.
