Living in the same tank, would a psuedotropheus saulosi male try to breed with a yellow lab female since they look fairly similar to the females of their own species? Does hybridization typically only occur between species of the same genus? thanks for any info

You had to go and mention that hy************ word didn't you?

Anyway, it would be pretty common for species of the same genus to interbreed, however whether they do or not is probably up to the individual fish.

I've got 2 male saulosi's and 3 electric yellow labs (dont' know their individual sexes)

so far--no problems. The saulosi's don't even chase them. And there are NO female saulosi's in the tank.
