Okay, I'm soooo excited right now!
Last night I bought 3 more zebra danios from my LFS to add to my other 4. Last night before I fed them, I noticed that a male was wrapping himself around a big female and then lil white specks were going everywhere. Soon after the entire school of them were skimming the rocks and chowing down. This assured me that the female did lay eggs because danios are known to munch on the eggs. I fed them as soon as I could (maybe a touch more than usual ;) ) and went to sleep. This morning I looked into the tank and on the sides of the tank by the rocks there are these lil black things that kinda look like curled up fishes. I'm going to take a picture and post it for all to clarify my beliefs. I would be so excited if they did, infact, spawn because then I don't need a breeding tank for them!

My question is, though, will they eat the fry while they are still developing? If so, what should I do to protect them?

i'm actually suprised that there were some fry that survived. I've seen countless numbers eaten up in no time though I guess the large rocks you have in the tank have given them some hideout opportunities. IME danios will eat the fry if they can. If you want to save some of them, I suggest putting them into another tank that is already cycled. Fresh water and micro-flakes, (java moss can work wonders) should help them out.

My second tank is not cycled yet as I just started it today with 20% water from my cycled tank and the rest is pure tap water and 2 drops of dechlorinator. Since it was an accidental spawn I guess I'll just watch and wait and hope I get a fish out of it :)
