Just noticed this on my driftwood today after another severum came over to munch on the "driftwood" and another one chased it away...

Same as rearing most fry, any that hatch i recommend putting into a fry/grow tank. After about 2 weeks feed them liquid fry food when they are free swimmers or chrushed hbh super soft pellets. I use the hbh super soft pellets for my FireMouth fry I have, I just crush the pellets with my fingers anddrop it into the tank, then blow on the top of the water to cause it to sink. They go crazy over it.

So for the two weeks after hatch, whilst in the grow tank i don't feed them anything?
And i can do a hang on type grow tank, or should i bust out my 20 gallon and buy a filter for it...
BTW how long do they usually take to hatch?
thanks again, you've helped me out twice so far..
GO MARINES!!!

Once they hatch they feed off their yolk sacks. I would take out the 20g tank for them. Most fish take 3-4 days to hatch, and will be extremely tiny. So i recommend once they hatch, bust out a gravel vac and syphon them out into a bucket, then transfer them into the 20g. I would recommend setting up the 20g tank now, and using a filter from your main tank to cycle the water, maybe use a bit of water out of the main tank, maybe 20% from the main tank, then 80% new water.

Well you could do as Mike said but if you want a cheaper option then maybe a breeders trap would be a idea.

white eggs are infertile eggs, clear eggs are the ones that are fertile, if look really close to the clear eggs youll notice a tiny black speck in them, thats the baby fry.

Bought a small floating divider for this tank. But if the guy on Clist accepts, I might get a nice 42 gallon hex w/ filter and hood for 75, but no stand. So they might be living in style or in a small clear case. gok.

hmm... i only have like 5 out of 40 that are clear.... does that mean my chances of getting any fry are slim?
thanks msm

If there is two severum's guarding the eggs there is a good chance that they are the m/f? I only ask this because i had three and just gave the other one away that the two would harrass all the time.
I just wanna make sure that I didn't remove the female and two males are making sure the eggs hatch or something...
And I'm about to go get a 42 gallon hex setup for 85 bucksssssssss w00t w000t.. clist rules..

I think there is one fertile egg left... dangit. Why are they still guarding and aerating them so diligently?

because they dont reallize that most of the eggs are infertile, could be their first time spawning. My FireMouths will guard their eggs no matter what, speaking of my FireMouths they have spawned for a 4th time in 2 months, i really nailed their water parameters down perfectly for spawning.
