found new snail... is it bad?

here is a pic:

it looks just like a nass snail with its snout, but it has a different shaped shell... and has red specles all over its "food" and stuff...

is it bad?

You need about 50 more to really clean your sand, but no that guy is great for your tank.

Nass snails are great for cleaning sand ... also getting left over food that hits the bottom .. they don't need to be turned over like astra or conehead snails.

I don't think the poster is referring to the Nassid snail. The one in question appears to be an Olivid snail (olive shell or snail). They tend to go about feeding on beneficial organisms that live in the sand that keep it bioactive. Other than that, I suppose they dont' "hurt" anything else. FYI, I don't suggest that many Nassarius, unless you feed quite a bit. With some exceptions, the species found in aquaria feed on carrion (NOT detritus) and will starve otherwise. Other species are even predatory.

Ya i wasn't reffering to a nass snail... i have like 10 of those...

its the other one that i was talking about.. in the picture of the huge shell and the two snails, its the one on the right... the other is the nass snail..

That's what I thought. Do a google search on olive snails or the family olividae and you should pull up some answers.

Any one have any nass snail/gallon recomendations? i think i have about 20 in my 46 galon/80lbs sand?

i have like 12 nass in my 30long plus like 6 astrea and 5 cerith plus like 10 dwarf blue legs and like 6 scarlet hermits
