Have a 75g tank that needs 1875 gph water flow for a reef setup (75x25=1875). Question i have is do you get powerheads that equal up to 1875 gph for the tank or just random powerheads at different gph? Looking at getting 2 Hydor Koralia 3 at 850GPH each. Thankyou in advance for any help you give.

Either way but, I prefer to get smaller power heads and place them at random around the tank. It causes a much more chaotic water flow that will make your corals much happier IME.

I don't have an answer for the overall gph needed for the reef but I have to Koralia 4's in my 75g at advice from several here (was going to go with 2 3's) The Koralias are great. I don't have a reef setup though.

I would go with 2 K-4's or you can go with 2 K-3's and maybe 1 or 2 smaller MJ's across the back. With the Koralias and similar pumps the flow is in a wider stream so you want even higher flow and your corals will like the wider flow better as it will not be a tight stream that will knock things over IMO.

I should have asked but what type of corals do you plan to keep softies, LPS's or SPS's ??

Going to keep different types of corals, not sure as of what yet. Have mushrooms, toadstoal, hammers, zoos, torch, and a clam at the moment. Thinking about doing a closed loop scwd from melevsreef.com
