my pleco every once in a while will now swim to the top of the tank poke his nose out real quick then swim back to the bottom, on the way up to the top though he lets out some air bubbles on both sides of him, any suggestions what this is???

I've seen goldfish do that, it seems pretty normal.

They are just going up to get a gulp of air. You'll notice quite a few catfish do this especially plecos and cory cats. Labryniths such as bettas and gouramis also take breaths of air from the gases on the surface.

Tank temperatures could be a little warm for him, reducing the amount of dissolved oxygen.

That temp should be fine. I keep mine at 78.
