So I have about 5 lbs of Eco Complete left from the bag I bought for my ten gallon, and I also have a leftover empty 2.5 gallon tank. So here's what I was thinking, because I'm pretty sure there's no good way to store this eco complete since it's kind of in water and I hate to throw it away...

If I put the eco complete in the 2.5 and left the lid off and put some bamboo in it (top sticking out of the water), would it work? I was thinking I could do that and place it near a window, and maybe when my 10 gallon starts growing some stuff I could add it in, and maybe some cherry shrimp or a betta or something if there's room. But would I need a filter? (Obviously I would if I had a fish or shrimp in) but for now do I need anything else in there? What about an airstone?

I was thinking maybe I could set up some sort of sponge filter and maybe a tiny airstone to provide some circulation. Thoughts?

Thanks!

The liquid that comes with the Eco-Complete isn't very useful, you can let the eco dry out and still use it later.

But if you want to have a mini terrarium with bamboos or lucky bamboos that will work. You don't need to fill the whole tank with water, just keep the substrate very moist. If you do want to fill the whole tank with water then a filter will keep the water polished.
