So I was staring at my aquarium today and I noticed this little black dot moving slowly up the side of it. I got closer, to see if it was a bug on the outside. IT WAS NOT!! It was a snail on the inside. I have ONE mystery snail in my 35 gal, I don't understand how this happened. I don't even think this snail IS a mystery snail. It is a mystery though. Could it have come from the previous owner of the tank? I used his gravel, but I'm pretty sure that it was dry for at least a year. Can tiny baby snails live that long without water? I did buy a plant the other day, is it possible that I scored a free snail with it? I'm so confused! I'll post pics later, when it's bigger and I CAN take a pic of it. In the meantime I'd like to know what you all think of this situation.

its entirely possible that you had snails or snail eggs hitchhike in on a plant. Mystery snails lay a large reddish clutch of eggs above the water surface, so if you didn't see one of those, its probably not a mystery snail. Most likely its a pond snail or a ramshorn, both of which I have had hitch hike unnoticed into my tanks on plants.

http://www.fishpondinfo.com/snail2.htm and www.applesnail.net (http://www.applesnail.net) have pictures of different kinds of snails. Congrats! I love all of mine.

I used to love the ones in my (now 75g) 30g. Then I had 1000+, and they became objects that produced poop, lol
