Hi all, I'm new to the group and have a very sick betta. I'm also a fairly new fish parent (i purchased my male betta from a local pet store about 2 years ago). Cosmo (short for cosmopolitan - my favorite cocktail at the time) developed a white cottony patch just behind his dorsal fin (fin seemed to have shrunk over night about 6 months ago - I actually thought he ate it or something, again very new here). Well I researched the white cottony patch (fungus/fin rot) about 2 weeks ago and tried the fungus clear (didn't seem to help) so have been trying Melafix for the past 7 days (and still seems to be getting worse).

I feel so bad and I'm not sure if he is suffering, doesn't appear to be as has the same healthy appetite and swimming patterns as always, but it looks really bad.

My question is do I keep trying the Melafix (change to something else) or is their a humane way to end his life if beyond healing? I'm so upset about the little guy but don't want him to be suffering.

Thanks so much, I appreciate any suggestions.

welcome to Ac, I would recommend that you post this in the general freshwater or freshwater newbie section so that it will get more traffic and you will get some help. Also pics will help. Good luck!
