I've run into a small case of Ich. I was watching my big bala closely and noticed some instances of Ich forming. I immediately went out and bought the Ich medications, but have since halted that because of alleged staining. No medication has been prescribed to the tank yet (bought Quick Cure and the Super Ich Cure by API). Right now I am dosing the aquarium with salt and raising my temperature from 80 to 82 and slowly rising. What I am mainly worried about is my expensive gold nugget pleco. I have looked him over and show no signs of the Ich, but will the salt treatment harm him? This is my first instance of Ich ever and I pretty much can attribute it to using a different LFS that brought it in. Any recommendations other than just religiously treating with salt and 82-86 temps?

Thanks,
Kris

Just follow the directions on the salt and you'll do fine. I used it with my tiny albino ancistrus plecos and had no problems. Your gold nugget should be fine as well. 82 won't do anything except make them reproduce faster. I think 85 is the magic number, but I've had success at 84.

One more question. When I am dosing my aquarium with salt, can I dose the 30G sump and let the salt dissolve in their? Then I assume the dissolved salt in the sump will raise the overall salt level of the aquarium if it turning it over more than 12x an hour. Am I correct?
