Needing a Male

Has any one had any luck with getting males form LFS( petsmart, PetCo). This is my 3rd try at getting males in either jaguars or RD. Every time its Female. Is there any way of better guessing on which fish to pick,(For Males). They are only 1-2 inches. Im starting to think that the breeder screens out all the males. For a separate mor expensive deal.:help:
 
What i do is get five juvies of jags or red devils grow them out a little until you have a pair has worked every time for me.I have or had a pair of jags,cons,dovii,motas,firemouth,jack dempseys and so on this is the only way at that size i can be almost 100% sure.
 
Sexing any fish at 1-2 inches is extremely hard to do. Once Midas or RD's reach 4 inches it is possible to sex them but it is still questionable. Jag's can be sexed at 5 inches but most often 6 inches. As bigriver suggested get a large group of each and get a pair that way. Whats up Bigriver?
