i've gotten a knight goby on thursday, and put it in my tank a after a dipping it with paraguard for few hours(and it had no visible disease/infection). it immediately made the corner of the tank, with an overhanging small water pump and a tall plant next to it, as its den. the next day, i used garlic guard to attract it to get bloodworms from near the surface with my f8 puffer. all was fine. but the next day(yesterday), it refused to come up no matter how much garlic guard i poured in (i fed clam meat to both yesterday). in the end, i had to dip my entire arm in to reach the bottom of the tank where its den is, and drop the clam meat in front of it. only then it ate the clam. i can see it swimming around the bottom when i see it from far (and my puffer simply stares at it and swims away, no aggression), but when i (or anybody) goes near it, it zooms immediately back to its den. how do i make it warm up to me (or for that matter, humans)?

Give it time to get used to the tank. Expecting it to be instantly social is silly.

You're a victim of marketing with using Garlic Guard to "attract" your fish to eat. "Whet your fishes' appetite" to quote their blurb.

Also, all you're going to do by reaching your arm into the tank to feed him is scare him even more. Use feeding tongs, if you feel the need to place food near him. There's really no need unless your F8 puffer is eating everything.

i know. it's been a week. now it's willing to come up and eat (it senses the scent of food when the puffer is eating, i suppose). it's still a bit afraid of humans, but lesser now.

it does work. earlier on, when i pour garlic guard in and stand away, it comes up, but when i got closer, it zooms back into its hideout.

i have no feeding tongs that long (its a tall tank, check my post for my tank photos). and my puffer will chew whatever food i put in (even spirulina flake and lettuce), and spit it out if the food isn't to its liking.
