I plan on buying a pump in the next few days, but I'm almost ready to put my sump into operation.

It was recommended that I remove the filtration media from my canister and use it as an uber powerhead, just to move water...

Why not use it to move water from my sump? It's rates at 260 gph, which is almost 5 times my tank capacity.. Is there any reason why iy wouldn't work?

New Reefer provided me with blueprints for a DIY overflow box (THANKS!!) which I have all the rough cutting finished on; I just need to assemble it.

I'm getting eager to getting this thing up, so what harm could be done using my filter canister for a week or so?

Any opinions?

Is that accounting for headloss? I'd sincerely get a pump instead and can help with recommendations if you haven't investigated which ones to buy. I'd use the canister instead to run carbon and such when needed.

Well, it's already moving water from the location I would put the sump, but I don't know how much headloss I suffer... I do plan on getting a pump; most likely a ViaAqua 2300 or 2400...

I'll be ordering it tomorrow.. I was just being impatient. I'll have everything ready by next weekend. I need to get some glass cut for my sump..

Unless someone knows how to glue acrylic into a glass aquarium.. I have lots of leftover from my hood and overflow box, which is almost done...
