does aquarium salt help prevent fungus on goldies?

We recently were given some small-pond goldies - friends were dismantling the pond and didn't want them anymore. One of them is an oranda, and several of them have loose scales. I know the water was bad (almost black)in the pond, and believe this is what caused the scale problem. Have been treating them with melafix since i got them, and i KNOW they are in a temp tank far too small for them.
What worries me is the oranda. His head growth almost looks like it might be starting to grow fungus. He's a beautiful fish, and i would like to prevent it, if possible. Have been doing some reading and wondered if adding salt would aid the melafix in preventing fungus on him?
We have 2 mid-sized hob filters in use on that tank to help with water cleanliness, and am doing wc's every day or two. Anything i missed? (Other than getting a tank large enough to house them all.)
So far no other signs or symptoms of any diease have shown up. They are most likely stunted already, as the pond they were in was tiny for 7 fish, and they have been in there for quite some time. (think my 34g tank would hold more water than that pond) Guess i won't really find that out unless i get a HUGE tank and put them in it - already am looking for a huge tank for the other goldies we already have. (we have a total of 15 OTHER small goldies - now plus these 7. guess we would need 250g tank? or bigger? to keep them all in our house. We want a large (1800g or so) pond too, and that's part of why we have so many goldies.)

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions welcome.
