Is the white blotch and spots on my cory fungus? If so, what causes it? How can I treat it? And how do I prevent it from happening again?

I'll take some current readings. But last water change, 2 days ago, my readings were:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate ~20
PH 7.8

I do a weekly water change, and lately have been doing it about every 5 days. I've recently planted, about 1 1/2 weeks ago. And have been doing water changes more frequently since then because of brown diatoms - have always had a small amount of these, but they have grown out of hand since I've upgraded my lights, added a DIY CO2, and added some ferts.

I have seen fungus on my driftwood. But it's been in there for 3 or 4 months now, I clean it as soon as I see any. And I have never seen any thing like this on my fish until yesterday.

yep, thats fungus. if you can, move him to a seperate QT tank. Mardell has a whole bunch of meds that you can use. MarOxy can be used, or any other anti-fungal meds. either way, you may want to use an antibacterial medication in additon to the antifungal meds to keep the wound from becoming infected by a secondary bacterial ailment.

I don't have a QT, but I'll go get one. Will it be ok to move him to an uncycled QT tank? And would a 5 gallon QT be enough? I don't really have space for a tank, but I can put a 5 gallon on a counter top or my dresser if needed.

do you have a filter you can move over to a new 5gallon tank? (that way it will be cycled.

Well, the fungus isn't on the cory anymore. It's in the stomach of one of my GBR's... The cory didn't fell like being netted. I had to chase it around with my net to catch it. In the process the fungus came off and was floating around. Just as I noticed that, one of my GBR's takes a mouth full of it. We'll see if anything happens to the GBR.

So I had to get my siphon out and clean the tank, getting as much of the free floating fungus as I could.

And PetsMart didn't have any 5 gallon glass aquariums. They did have a 6 gallon acrylic 'system', with a cover that had a built in filter and light. But a 10 gallon was cheaper. So now I have a 10 gallon. And once the cory is back in the main tank, I'll probably use the 10 gallon for a planted tank (plus hospital tank if needed again). Which the 6 gallon system wouldn't be that ideal for a planted tank.

As for the question above, I don't have a filter I can use. I have one on my 30 gallon, but I need it there. I had to buy a new one for the 10 gallon. But I did replace the filter media in my 30 gallon, and have the old filter media hanging in the out flow of the new filter. So hopefully that'll help. I'll have to keep an eye on the water parameters for a week or so though.

Oh yeah, I did a water test after my first post:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate ~10
PH 7.8

I do have a big problem with brown diatoms though. Anybody know how to fix that problem?
