i was wondering if anybody has ever grown plants to sell. I am thinking about doing this either to make a little money or enjoyment. So if anybody has ever done this pleas tell.

I've sold and given away well over 500 indian fern plantlings. I'm currently working with red temple and ludwigia repens as I like both of them. I'm hoping to work with more difficult plants for propagation once my wet thumb gets a bit greener.

Most plants sell for a few bucks. Consider the cost of lighting, circulation and perhaps heat. Consider the cost of the rest of the setup. Consider the time you will have to put in raising. selling and shipping. When all is said and done you will not make any money and may even lose some.

If you live in a warm sunny climate so you can minimize lighting and heating costs and if you have lots of cheap space, then you might make some money.

I do, but just the excess clippings from my 46g so far. It beats tossing them, but it isn't exactly the kind of money you'd really want from a side job.

That said, I've also thought about setting up a NPT for Alternanthera in the basement...

if you plan on setting up a nice aquarium (planted) and you harvest some of the plants you may be able to make a few$$.
but large scale is the only way to go if you want to make money at it. the like 2 tanks said you have a lot of associated costs.

as a hobbiest you will have those cost anyway so you can sel a few plants on the side to help defer those costs.
shipping costs are deffered by the buyer.
