Hi all
I have been lovingly keeping tropical fish for years now and have decided to move to marine...today I was told by the shop that will be supplying most of the equipment that I don’t need a protean skimmer...is this correct it didn’t sound right to me

Also has anyone ever heard of a sea panda

Running a skimmer is largely personal choice. They are a huge help in maintaining water quality, and many swear by them, but you can run a tank without one.

Nope--never heard of a sea panda. What is it supposed to be?

Sea Panda? Sounds made up to me. As far as the skimmer goes, I am one of those who swear by them. I know a lot of people who do not use one. I do, and I have noticed a marked difference in my nitrate levels since I started skimming.

I'm on the other side. I run tanks with and without a skimmer. Anemones actually seem to do better in my tanks without skimmers.

Thanks for the advice...The sea panda hee hee I saw this fish 10 years ago in a fish shop in Sheffield uk it was a type of box fish black with white circles round its eyes and nose. It was a superb looking fish and seemed to interact with you...very cute

Are your sure it is not a puffer? There is a Panda Dogface Puffer that has a dark grey body with black eye circles and nose circle. Don't know if there is a box fish but there is definetly a puffer. The puffers will generally run (US) customers about 75 bucks. Hope this helps.

Yep, dogface puffer. They have a wide variety of color variations, depending on the collection location.
