I have decided to take the plunge and put together some DIY co2. its going to be far too expensive to keep spending money on excel alone, and I haven't been satisfied with the growth I have seen so far. So my question is this, how many 2 liter bottles will I need for my 45? I would consider it lightly planted at the moment, but i am buying two new plants this week and may add a few more until I get the coverage that i want. anybody have a similiar setup?

I used 2 bottles on my 75 when I was running co2, I think 2 will work good on your 45.

I've always preferred the 3 liter bottles, myself.

i suppose in theory i could just find a single 4 liter bottle to do the trick, but i was wondering if the output would actually be the same as two 2 liters, or would the mixture just last longer with a single output instead of two?

its better to have a couple bottles then just one..... it depends on how well you defuse the co2.... might need 2-4 depending on many factors. in the end its going to be cheaper and better to get pressurized.

ok then mgamer, I have one more question: is there any cheaper way to do an automated pressurized system than the one available from drs foster smith? automation isnt absolutely necessary but I'm afraid of a pH crash so it would be preferable but I dont have 400 bucks to drop on it right now

that one is way over priced.....
get the co2 tank local..... get a regulator from the net with a solenoid.
you can have it on a timer so the co2 goes off at night.... later you can add a
