I recentley got divorced and for 2.5 months my ex was taking "care" of my tank(150 in sig.) I nwas finally able to get a permanant home last week and when i picked up the tank this weekend, the water looked like dark beer( the Butti's 55g was sparkling), and I noticed right away that one of my O's was swelled up, and skin around the anus is tearing. I think It's dropsey, and has popeye for sure , what is the best treatment or is it something else? I have no pic (she has the cam) but, I can't believe she "didn't notice", and I found out she never once cleaned my diy w/d filter, the floss was solid fish poo. I don't know how long my poor fish has been affected. SHe said " I couldn't get in there to scrub it" she sure got in the bottom back corner to take my $25 piece of driftwood. what makes me so mad is that she KNOWS how to take care of fish, we were together for 7 years and she was right there with me as I was learning(not as enthused ) but she knows how to do better than she did. anyway, please advise.

Epsom salt is often the recommended remedy for this. What were the water parameters of that tank? If it is indeed dropsy, there is not much chance the oscar may be able to survive as it is very difficult to treat it.

:cry:well, I treated w/ meddication for 12 days and she didn't get better, I was inspecting the lesions before I had to leave my tank w/my new roommate (as he has never had luck w/fish(most likley lack of education)) and blood started pouring out of her gills so I had to euthanize via freezer. I think she was pretty much gone anyway when the blood started coming out, she barley made a fuss when I bagged her and put her into her cold dark tomb.
