I have a bit of brown algae in my planted 55, ont the leaves of some of my plants.

I currently have:
Angelfish
GBRs
Honey gouramis
Albino Rainbow Shark (stil very very small)
Albino Cories
Dainty Cories

Everyone gets along great thus far. (I am getting another tank in a few weeks, so I will have a place to move fish should any personality conflicts arise)

Is their any type of algae eater that wont pick on the Cories, but also won't get picked on by my other fish??

Thanks!!!:grinno:

Otos might be good?? I know they're good for eating algae and lots of people recommend them but i have never kept them. I would think that if the cories don't get picked on the Otos wont either. You could probably get like 3 maybe?

how new is the tank? brown algae is often actually a kind of diatom bloom, which happens all the time in new tanks, or where there is a high amount of silica (?) in the tap water. it goes away naturally after a couple weeks.

It's a new tank. I have had fish and plants for about 2 weeks. (I successfully cycled with BioSpira)

I had Diatoms in my first 10 gallon tank and it covered everything and came back practically overnight when I cleaned it.. This is only on the leaves of my Wisteria, Anubis, and Brazillian Sword, and hasn't seemed to spread much, not at all rapidly. Could that still be a Diatom bloom?

Thanks! :)

I wouldn't recommend them. These are far too nasty for the angelfish and other fish's likings as they mature.

I would say its a diatom bloom. It always comes about in new tanks, and grows real well on slow growing plants like yours. I say either get some bristle nose plecos or relax and let it pass. And between the two choices, I think letting it pass with out buying fish is the best option. If you can easily wipe the "algae" off with your finger tips, then its diatoms.

Yep, wipes right off!! Well, hopefully it won't get as bad as my last tank did. I will just try to wait it out!! Thank you all for the advice!! :grinyes:

good choice. especially since you are having health problems with your angelfish in the other thread - it is much better to get that problem solved completely before adding any new fish to your tank. not only can they bring in disease and parasites, but any kind of ammonia or nitrite spike could harm the angelfish further.

the asheville aquarium which is near sam's club (south patton ave?)
wnc aquarium and imports in fletcher, on 25 by pizza hut near the henderson/buncombe co. line
the airport rd. petsmart in arden - good knowledgable employees, very clean
fish & pets in hendersonville - not great, but sometimes has oddball/rare fish. usually have to be careful and QT for internal parasites. do your research before you go there.

Sorry, i got you confused with another member re: the angel thing. similar name and stocklist. mea culpa.
