Well it's been a week since i started to treat cichlid for pop eye with melafix. I noticed in this period of time the eye looked worse. Today i came home and noticed the eye is begining to tear off. The fish is doing fine otherwise. It does circles more now than other fish while it looks around with it's one good eye. I guess no matter what i treated it with, it would have been to late to save eye. I discovered the popeye the day before i began to treat. Maybe it was because of injury, or maybe a real bad infection. I guess to be on positive side, the tank has been treated for a week now. So if it was a bacteria infection, hopefully the other fish will be fine. All my other fish appear healthy. Fins and scales look fine. I have even added some aquriaum salt . Intill now i've never used any. I will now thou.
I liked this fish because the females are pretty and different looking than many others.
Will skin fill in over the crater of the eye as it ages, or will a crater remain? right now the fish may be 2'' long.
Thanks for any support. I don't want to go over my water parameters right now. I know it's important. I can say that since i started keeping cichlids over 6 months ago that i have'nt had any deaths.

Pop-eye is often associated with poor water quality. The crater will remain as I've observed in a lot of fish whose eyes have been removed by violent conflicts and other factors.

Melafix has virtually no effect over pop-eyes. Your only solution is to maintain good water quality.

Well if it's water quality related then live and learn i guess. I will need to monitor the water better. When i first saw the pop eye; Besides the eye being alittle swollen, i coulnt see any physical injury. Their could have been thou. I'll finish off the melafix, just in case bacteria related.
