my mom was searching threw the shopper and she came across this ad in it, it is 2 classes, 20 bucks each, the first one goes over how to set up and maintaine a slatwater tank, and the second one is all about corals, and at the end of the class everyone gets a fragmented coral, will i be able to put the coral in my tank before it is cycled or should i just pass up the coral?,
thanks,
Shane

If you don't know anyone with a mature tank to keep it for you untill your tank has cycled properly (2-3 months...) I would suggest that you eather ask the people presenting the course to keep it for you, or just pass it up.

Makes one wonder about the integrity of the "trainers" if they offer coral frags as incentives to people who are only beginning with marines - not very concientious, if you ask me...

I might be wrong, but it sounds the second class is totally separate from the 1st. Its not a continuation of the first beginners class, just an class that helps inform people about corals. If thats not the case, then I can see your concern.

yes 2 totally different classes, but i thought it would be nice to learn about corals aswell, who nows mayby i might want a coral tank:) ;),
thanks,

Sounds like a good idea...I wish I had found something like that when I first got the notion of a SW tank. Come to think of it, I never looked:D.
I have been to other classes/seminars/etc....the only thing I would be cautious of (if it given by a LFS) is that it could become an infomercial for their store/products. I ran into that with a car club that wanted to have a seminar on the basics of Volkswagen restoration and the meeting was held at a VW shop. it basically was "bring us your car and a suitcase full of money and this is what we'll do for you...blah blah....".
