I really want to have a unique cave or cave system going in a 20g tank I have set up, possibly for a 10g as well.

I read the Coconut shell idea, as well as the spray foam / insulation ideas and thought this would be a good forum to ask it.

In my previous tank, I used an old whale-shaped soapdish that my pleco and rainbow shark used to kick it in.

Now they are a bit large for that, but I want to provide an innovative hideout for them.

Any ideas?

Any recommendations for safe underwater adhesives?

Any "DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE THIS MATERIAL!" experiences?

I really wanted to build something out of old computer boards, but decided against it. (rust / chemicals / oils et al)

Thanks!

The best adhesive for underwater is silicon. As for cave ideas, as well as those mentioned you could go with flower pots (ensure clay ones have not had anything sprayed on them, such as pesticides), plastic piping (im sure theres some you should avoid...but not sure which), erm...now heres a real inventive one...rocks.

ditto on the flower pots

i made come with them....used a grinder to make a little opening so I could place the pot upside down....i then took silcone and brushed a think layer in the pot....then took some extra gravel and sand to cover the pot (i like natural or almost natural looks) turns out real nice

get a piece of shale or slate and drop it on the street to shatter it into pieces then silicone them together into a cave.

I have a few pieces of slate from old driftwood mounts (the weights). I took some shale and broke it up and glue it all together so the solid flat piece made a roof, then I added some more pieces around the edges on top to make a planter (to hold gravel) where I planted microsword and dwarfgrass.

I'm sorry I don't have a picture, I lost the tank in the custody battle.

it's not natural, even tho i suppose you could make it look somewhat like it is if you wanted to take the time...... the most unique cave system i have seen so far tho was made out of hamster tubing. habitrails or something they call them?

they made up like a hamster run and just dropped it in the tank.

just a neat little idea i saw.
