The last time my kribs had fry, I just used a small cup to scoop water from the top and just did a water change rather than a gravel vac. Maybe this would work for you?

sut use the gravel vac but dont vacumn the gravel just keep the vac by the top of the tank and jsut suck out top water.

I guess that's why you need to be so careful not to overfeed with fry in the tank. You can't really be thorough in your cleaning!

i guess part of it would have to depend on the size of the tank and what's in it.

if it's a 4 ft tank and there's not many inhabitants you might be able to do one end. but if you go trying to vac and you have alot of other fish, you might end up driving them to the other end of the tank.

i would definately do water changes tho, just stick to the "as far away" as you can theory, and when you readd water, try to do it gently so the current doesn't blow them all around.
