Conscience striken at having housed a very small redcap oranda (less than an inch) with a goldfish, a shubunkin and a comet (and a rambunctious black moor) and THEN finding out it's a no no, I transferred the little one back to the smaller tank recently. The moor stays where he is for now, pending the arrival of a new home, as he is bigger and probably wouldn't do too well if his accommodation was downsized. Anyhow, Ginger looked a little lonely so yesterday I went out and got him a couple of equally small pals, an orange oranda and a red and white one. My nephew had the same idea and arrived home with a little gold and black moor and an oranda shaped "shubunkin". I couldn't turn them away and the new home ordered and due to arive in a week so in they all went together. About half an hour later the orange oranda started torturing everybody else and it got so bad I decided I would risk him in the tank with the bigger fish, I thought the space would calm him down. To my surprise he just immediately engaged in attacking anything that got in his eyeline, particularly the biggest fish, Henry. To his credit and that of his companions, at the moment they just swim away as fast as they can, but the little guy is completely determined and acts like an enraged mini torpedo - I thought fancies were the slower swimmers? If he won't behave even in a big tank, he's going to have to live by himself in the small one... but that's only going to work while he's a midget.....any suggestions on why he might be so mean?
