Here is the list of things I was thinking of ordering from Big Als Online. I know I am missing stuff, but I do not know what. Do I need a air pump, what fish food would you order for small freshwater fish, what plant food would you get? Specific light bulb that works good with the AGA Mini-Bow 7 gallon etc.

AQUACLEAR MINI POWER FILTER - $11.99
EBO-JAGER HEATER TS 50 WATT - $13.99
FLOURITE 7 KG LATERITE - $9.99
TETRA LABORETT TEST KIT - $12.99
EASY CATCH NET-4" - $0.49
BLACK GRAVEL- 5 lbs - $3.29

If you notice anything missing please let me know.

Thanks so much

PS.
I saw some tiny Kenyi Cichlids, bout 1". Do those grow up to be big fish?

maybe a thermometer and some dry food? and do you have a siphon and water conditioner for cleanings and water changes?

Unless you are just *wanting* the look of black gravel mixed with the flourite, one bag of flourite would be sufficient for plant substrate in a 7 gallon.

I thought I would put a small amount of black gravel over the top of the flourite. Small amount being less then a centimeter. I thought the black surface would bring out the colors in the fish.

If its a bad idea please let me know so I do not order the black gravel. I dont want to hinder my plant growth in the aquarium.

Thank you

Big Al's carries Eco-Complete plant substrate that is black. Gives all the benefits of iron rich substrate plus the color you want.

second to leslie's plan, thermometer, water conditioner (I use stress coat), siphon, maybe an acryllic safe scrubber for algae...

Plant food is tricky, if you have the standard light then I would use Flourish (plain old Flourish by Seachem, not Iron, Excel, Potassium, Phosphate, or any other, just plain Flourish with all the good nutrients low light plants like).

Light bulbs are also tricky. I use 24 and 48" bulbs so I get the cheapo aquarium and daylight tubes from Home Depot. Your bulb I believe is a t5 12" bulb so choices are limited and plants should be purchased accordingly.

For the substrate, Onyx sand by seashem would be great because it is an excellent source of minerals for the plants and its black of course. Also made by Seachem is the Flourish plant fertilizer I would reccomend you getting. As the others have said, get Stress Coat water conditioner, a thermometer(one inside the tank, not outside as the inside ones are much more accurate), and some sort of syphon to do water changes. As far as food goes, I would just get some type of tropical flake food, something made by Tetra min. That should cover everything. Oh, you don't need an airpump, actually, you wouldn't want one because the oxygen would deplete the water of CO2 which the plants need.

I have onyx in a tank.. It's more of a gray than black.
