i want to set up an afican tank

i just got this tank and it is 3ft by 1and 1/2 foot and i was wondering if the set up would be good for african chilids or will i have to change it
i have american chilids and a planted tank

I'd go with some Lake Tanganyikan shell dwellers to start with. Plants like vallisneria, anubias, Javan ferns and some echinodorus are often left alone by most cichlids although digging could be a serious issue among those that are planted on the substrate.
