You guys maynot agree with me but the new Movie Finding Nemo has brought a huge surge of business to the marine fish world. On my local news channel it said clownfish were selling like crazy at all the local fish stores many of them bought by kids cause they like the movie a lot. Now getting to my point..... kids buying saltwater fish most likely being there first fish..... and since they or there parents might not know how to take care of clownfish. That causing the clownfish to die due to the unproper care taking of the fish. See my point many starters into the hobby of saltwater fish dont know how to take care of the fish :( Im a freshwater guy so i dont know if they hard fish to take care of or what. If you wanna look at it in a good way the fish market is growing and people who do know how to take care of the clownfish are giving them good homes. :)

The bad part is some dumb people are starting to free their Nemos because of the movie. There was a single Ocellaris Clown found in the Atlantic Ocean at a wreck site. Too bad for the fact that Ocellaris Clowns are Indo-Pacific fish!!!! Same with Blue Tangs.

If you really want to get mad, go to Aquabid.com and click on the marine fishes. There's some guy selling a "Finding Nemo" set with 2 clowns in a 7 gallon tank for $125!

aronmoir- did you see the CBS segment on the Early Show I believe it was? That 2 Clowns was nothing compared to this. They added two Ocellaris Clowns, a Blue Tang, a Seahorse, and a Starfish to a 5 gallon mini bow uncyled and lived by the freshwater 1 inch per gallon rule. The segment was done by Tetra so now many people that care about sw fish (including myself) are boycotting Tetra products........ wait, I always have been though. Anyway, this is why we are angry more than anything else.

I have bunches of people come in and look at our two sw tanks (just starting with the sw!!) and will ask where is the nemo fish. I haven't picked any up since that movie came out. I won't til people stop asking me where nemo is either.

I've heard about this movie a few times now. Can someone fill me in on the basic story? I take it this is a cartoon?

I've always wanted / liked clown fishes before that movie ever came out, but now everyone thinks the only reason I go lookin for them is because of that movie..
Arg.. I am not a fad fish keeper!
Same thing every Easter with people buying little chicks and rabbits for their kids. They don't realize the things get adult size and you have to care for them.
And every time they made a 101 Dalmations movie, wasn't there a rash of people buying dalmations pups and getting a little upset when they reached adult size?
These are prime examples of people not being aware of the care and needs of particular animal they are buying. They just want to be trendy.
Me, when I decide to go to a SW tank, I'm looking at community/peaceful tank as much as possible. I looked at Clowns and figure I'll have one. BUT the more I read, the more I am leaning toward having an more unusual Clown instead of the normal orange/white. Guess we'll see.......
