Need help getting started 10gallon

Hey there- I'm just starting out as well. Some things I would recommend getting are the best lights your tank can hold/you can afford. I too have just started a 10 gallon tank. My hood has two screw in bulb sockets, so I got 2 compact fluorescent bulbs- 10 watts each. I've been told this isn't all that great, but I think it's the best I can do with that hood. And a tip is that the cheapest place for the bulbs I found was actually WalMart. If you have a strip light though you might be able to find some better options.
Also, I switched from gravel to Eco-Complete substrate (Flourite would be good too) and purchased a bottle of both Flourish Comprehensive and Flourish Excel for fertilization.
So that's what I've got so far but that's what I've been doing. I just ordered a bunch of plants from aquabotanic and was pretty much pleased.

If you have a fluorescent hood or incandescent with screw-in CFLs, you can already grow low-light plants without buying any extra products.
If you want to keep high-light plants and get better growth, you'll need higher-end lighting systems, a CO2 system, fertilizers and plant substrate.
