Hi all!

I think that guppies, mollies, platies, swordtails, and bumblebee gobies are all good tankmates for Amano shrimps.

I was wondering which ones would be the best?

Also, is there a minimum size for Amano shrimps as some of them sold in shops look quite small?

I think BB gobies are a brackish water species, so I'd cross that one off the list and add Rasboras to the list.

Although they are among the largest of the Neocaradina/Caradina species of shrimp, Amanos are still pretty small (<2").

I have my amanos in with platies, guppies, a pearl gourami, a young blue ram, some corydoras, and some bloodfin tetras without any issues. The only one I'm concerned about is the ram when she gets older, as cichlids can develop a taste for shrimp flesh.

The best tankmates for Amano shrimp are the ones that will not eat them. :) They can get up to 2", but while the shrimp are small, fish like gouramis, large mollies and platies, and bigger cichlids will most likely eat them.

BBGs can be kept in freshwater, and on the flip side, amanos can be kept in brackish. I've kept them together in fresh.

But any small, peaceful fish would be tankmate candidates. I wouldn't suggest mollies or swords though, as they can grow to twice the size of the amano.

Thanks for all the answers. They gave me a quick overview what makes sense.

I actually intend to keep them in low-end brackish water but as "brackish" is rather a step child not only with water test products I asked in the freshwater section as the emphasis is on shrimps and the fish and most people with keep them in freshwater, actually.
