I have a 55G planted tank with the following plants: Cryptocoryne(s) Wendtii, and Lutens, Amazon Swords, Vallisnaria, Pygmy Chain Swords, and Aponogeton Crispin. I have 130W PC lighting, and pressurized Co2 injection on a monitor to 25-28PPM, and do the Rex Griggs EI ferts regimen. I am getting a 75G tank and plan to add some higher light plants and was looking to get a 260W PC light and moving the 130W to a different tank. At 260W, I'm looking at 3.5+WPG. Is this amount of light too high, and possibly causing algae problems? Thanks for your feedback.

I've almost never heard of too much light, and I personly welcome algae, just a snack for my snails. I have rougly 2 1/4 watts per gallon, and its a huge improvment over my previous .75 WPG (you read right).

I believe that 3.5wpg might be a bit over the high side....
I think its doable, but like you said, you would defiantly need higher light plants... and CONSTANCY with everything is defiantly important. ;)

I'm not sure exactly how much + each wpg effects plants and algae, but my tank currently has 3.2 watts per gal and personally, thats as high as i would go....

But, if you feel confident, and aren't going to be extremely disappointed if it fails, I say go for it. We already know what the worst that can happen is.... and then you know how to correct it, so all in all, it would just be a learning experience... ;)

its doable but make sure you stock it with some fast growing plants to start. you could always start with half the light and work your way up.
