my tank is 4 weeks old and seems to be cycled and ready to go. everything is testing within range. i have already put some scarlet hermits and some turbo snails in the tank to help control unwanted algae. there is some green feathery looking algae about an inch long starting to show up(hope its not bryopsis) and some bright red algae on a few pieces of my L.R. and is beginning to spread quickly. dont think its red slime algae because i tried to clean some of it off a piece of L.R. with a nylon brush but could not remove it completly. almost like it stained the rock??? does anybody have any ideas of what kinds of algae these are and are they a good addition to a reef tank???

Coraline can come in red so if it is hard algae I'd say that is what you have. On the long green feathery one, sounds like byropsis but to be sure a photo would help. The coraline would be good, and as you've guessed the bryopsis not so good.

The green feathery algae does sound a little like bryopsis to me, cant be sure though without a picture of it...the rest is just coralline algae which will spread well with good lighting and calcium, alk and mag are all at good levels....Coralline is a good algae and will grow in differnet colours in differnet area's....

Definitely Coraline indeed,

Also important to note that in order to keep your coraline growth healthy have a decent amount of water movement, that helps keep detritus and other stuff from sitting on your rocks, which helps prevent coraline growth.
