Hey whats up everyone. I bought this Goldflake molly and two other goldflakes, along with 3 black mollies (2 females, 1 male in each group) about 2 weeks ago. I noticed that this female was not only getting pretty fat compared to the other mollies, but was also constanly chased by the male black molly. So I bought one of those 3 dollar breeding net things and tossed her in it...that's why the pictures suck so bad. Let me know what's up. Thanks.

Use tank full of plants rather than the useless "breeder" things. The latter is far more stressful and will result into premature birth of the fish.

So is that a yes, that you do think she is pregnant? Anybody else know if she is actually pregnant or am I just feeding them too much...

She looks pregnant to me, but by her size, not ready to have them, I highly suggest you take her out of the net, I tried with my girl and she got so stressed and started dropping eggs and premature babies.

32371I’ve had problems knowing whether my molly is pregnant or not myself. I read that mollies are the easiest fish to breed. However, I think guppies must be the easiest to breed simply because I have no problem knowing when they will drop their fry. After an unsuccessful guessing game that went on for more than a year, I finally gave up on breeding mollies. My focus has not been on my mollies so maybe that’s why most people have more success than I do. The funny thing is, last week my last male molly died. I then had only one molly left, a white female. After she had been the only molly in my tank for five days, I found 5 newborn molly fry. At least it’s a nice ending. Good luck with breeding your mollies thinair421!

It looks like you have a pregnant molly. I would move the molly to at least a 5-10 gallon tank so that not only is the molly comfortable, but so are the fry when they are born.

I agree with every one she is with fry, with this color you will be able to see the frys eyes in her abdomen. When she is ready she will look like she will explode. She will be able to spawn fry for around 3 months with out a male.
you will need to separate males from females as the males are relentless and will stress the females to "death". Your ratio of males to females should be 6 to 1. You will get between 10 - 25 for the first spawn and will go up from there with each spawn.
I would bet your other females are also with fry they are almost born pregnant you don't say what size tank you have but you will soon be over stocked.

She's pregnant, I'm sure of it. In fact, I don't think there's a time when Molly, Platy, or guppy females aren't pregnant! :)

Just a few mollie related questions.

Do mollies store semen for later broods like guppies?

Also, what's the usual gestation period?

thanks

This is applicable to almost all livebearers.

Also, what's the usual gestation period?

4 weeks. They may eventually drop fry every two weeks.;)
