I mean freshwater b/c I know that some marine are hard to breed.
I'm against it. They breed well in captivity, there's no reason to take them out of the wild. Taking a wild animal and putting it in a aquarium is wrong.

Well lets look at the logic of this. in the beginning there were no fish in tanks, they were all in the wild. Using your logic, there would bever be any fresh water fish tanks.
But lets forget that part. There are many fw fish yhay don't breed in captivity. Then there is the gene pool issue.
Maybe you need to rethink your position?

I guess... But I was looking at some fish like plecos.

There is another level to consider. Some fish now exist only in the hobby as they have basically gone extinct in the wild.
The zebra pleco is an example of another fish that is no longer exported from Brazil. They live in only one river which is an Amazon tributary. There is a reasonable chance these fish will become extinct if plans to dam the river are ever implemented. If capitve breeding programs with wild caught fish were not going on around the world, this fish could become extinct as well.
Nothing in life is always a simple as it may appear :-)

I didn't look at it that way.
I felt that having Hyacinth Macaws in captivities wasn't appropriate unless you have a large enclosure like a zoo but then, they're becoming extinct in the while so at least they're existing some where... Sad though.

I have nothing against wild-caught fish. As long as they are treating properly/humanely it's fine. Although, there has to be a limit as to prevent over-harvesting.
