I'm just starting out with a planted tank (I've kept FW tanks for over a year now), so the first plant I bought was a Java fern. I only bought it about 2 days ago or so, though, so I'm still waiting for it to attach itself to a rock.

Since the Java Fern hasn't died yet, I went out to my LFS and bought another plant, a "Brazilian Sword".

I've been reading about this plant on the internet, and there seems to be two different plants named "brazilian sword". One is the common house plant known as the Peace Lilly, and the other is an actual aquatic plant called the brazilian sword. Judging by the pic above, am I ok, or should I go buy a pot and some soil?

Thanks!

Here's another pic with one of my mollies posing

That looks similiar to a plant I bought labeled "Argentine Sword". However after looking at your plant, I'm questioning the labeling of mine...

If they are the same though, mine is growing quite well in the water. I hope that helps!

pot and soil.

Well, whatever that plant is, it is NOT happy on dry land. I bought a small pot and put it in some soil + fertilizer and put it in an indirectly sunny spot in my kitchen and a few hours later it was wiltyer than Trump's toupee.

I put it back in the tank and now it's standing up taller then it was when I got it.

I thin it's definitely an aquatic plant of some kind.

The plant in your pic looks like it has come onto some hard times with some of the leaves looking like they have been broken, as well as some algae. The water probably just helps it support itself better, since it is in such poor shape.
