What is this? I can't get a pic my camera is busted, plane ride from houston got it not working....another question in itself...

anyways i just got home from a week long trip and all the back of my glass and in the corners of the front of the tank with the macro there are tons of stringy white swimmin things, they swim like crazy and land on the glass then hop off and swim then come back. they are about the size of a " , " what is this? any help would be great!

thanks

they don't seem like copepods though...there are tons of them they like to cling to leaves and glass....smaller than a " , " but bigger/longer than a " . " I can't really see any arms on them though...please help!!

Well, it depends upon what you are calling a copepod. I have noticed that many people often call crustaceans like (among others) munnid isopods "copepods" as well, as sort of a blanket statement. Real copepods are very small--yours are most likely harpacticoid copepods.

With so many possibles as noted above, I hope the zooplankton and odds & ends section of my hitch hiker page will narrow it down for you.

Shovels? That sounds a bit like a flatworm although they are larger than what you described . Does it look like this(appears larger than it actually is to the naked eye):

no way... copepods look exactly like shovels... not a flathead one, a crown shaped one....

If they are flatworms the clear ones like I posted are harmless. The brownish red ones or the white ones with a visible red tip are not good.

they remind me of misquito larvae

Why dont you's get a thread running on our sister site, http://www.aquatic-photography.com/forum/ and see what peoples suggestions are for the budget in mind?
