i had a nightmare when i was about 6 when we were in the middle of a shopping mall and my mother was working with some fancy business people, when i heard it was something against nature , i then appeared on top of a two story play structure(still in the middle of the mall). i kept screaming her name but she didn't listen and then i slipped and fell off, as soon as i hit the marble floor i woke up...

..i'd rate that a 2..
my most recent nightmare,
a robot from space came to earth, and was taking names of people, it took one of my sisters, and mine..then..i guess the dream skipped over to another robot operated by a black and green alien , and began killing the people who's names it took..it sprayed a purple mist into their faces and the people exploded, so the next "scene" was me, my two sisters, and my parents in a room similar to my parents room and the robot was outside the door, which would mean it was in our house looking for my sister, it found us and wanted to take my sister, but my father begged it to take him instead...so it did..and it made us watch, thats when i woke up...

Nice, I'd rate that a five.. I used to have this recurring dream.
I'm standing in a field of flowers, one thousand miles wide, bordered on all sides by distant high mountains. Each flower is a different color, and each petal is a number. When I solve one equation in one flower, it sparks, and the whole field burns with blue flame, sweeping across the entire plane. When the flames die down, there's nothing left but sky blue sand, and these silver boats come grinding across the sand, driven by billowing purple and red sails. At the head of the leading ship is an imposing figure wearing a solid steel mask configured in a face of rage, with ruby red eyes glowing. He points a finger at me and says "you!" That's when I wake up...

I had one when I was 8 or something where I was standing on the side of a speeding lobster boat and lost my grip on the handle I was clinging to and fell into the frigid waters where no one would notice me (Woke up after I slipped).

My favorite reoccurring nightmare from my young kid days is this.
1st you need the background to understand why I had this dream.
When I was 7 or so the rule was in by the time the street lights came on. Well I lived at one end of the block and my friends at the other. I was to busy to notice when it got dark so I always would be walking home in the dark.
The dream
It was dark and I was running to my house, about half mile or so. There were patches of woods on either side of the road and I would cross on the opposite sides of the woods just in case someone or something was in them.
Well I got about 3 houses from my house and across the street because a patch of woods was there. I see this jeep speeding down our road so I wait for it to pass. It passes but then it slams on its breaks and preforms a perfect 180 facing me. I start running for my house and this guy jumps out. Just as I dive through my front door it gets peppered by machine gun fire. Then I would wake up.

I had a nightmare the other night:
I dreamt that the nurse was taking blood from my hand and as she pulled the needle out, it pulled my vein with it. The doctor decided that the vein was too rubbery so to help increase the blood flow I had to have a finger chopped off but i could choose which one.
I chose my little finger on my left hand and cried because I couldn't play the piano any more:eek3:
My friends now think I'm freaky!!!

I usually am the lead 'nightmare creature' in my nightmarish dreams. (ie: a phantom, ghost, monster, or killer on a killing spree). I've beat people to death Bruce Lee style in my dreams...lol
I know....weird. It must be my way of dealing with stress.
2... I don't think that counts as a nightmare, it's still cool though
Mine was really odd...
I dreamt/nightmared that I was sitting at my dining room table doing maths homework, then my family began assembling themselves one-by-one on the chairs around me. I knew they were vampires, don't ask me how, anyway they try to get me to expose my neck and lull me into a false sense of security, but my knowledge of their intent keeps them at bay. But slowly and steadily they edge closer and closer, so I duck my head under the table and repeat to myself "They're vampires, I'm dreaming, get me out".
They can hear this and they raise a cacophony of laughter, they can smell my neck and they tell me so...
Suddenly I break through...
Then I'm a triangle
Maybe my brain had just not had time to prepare the next step in the story... but I ended up as a three-pointed, three-sided scalene triangle,
That's the scary part.

not a great dream but one I always remember
I was probably 4 or 5 at the time. I was playing at my daycare when all of a sudden I started running frnatically around the house. I dont even think I knew what I was running from. I eventually ran into one of the bedrooms and this is where it was weird...the bed was gone and instead part of the wall was cut out like another door but it lead into solid dirt. I ran trying to dig my way through and all of the sudden the hydra from hercules (the one that can grow new heads) comes through the door and gobbles me up...then I woke up...not scary but kind of odd...

That's very similar to the only recurring nightmare I ever had. I was a small kid, maybe 5 or 6, but I remember it quite well. I kept having this dream of a wolf who wore clothes and stood on his hind legs and was as tall as a man. I was in a room with no doors or windows. I was bound to a chair in the center of the room. The wolf-man would bring in members of my family and my friends one at a time and he would eat them and make me watch. I'd scream and cry and I wouldn't wake up until everyone I knew was eaten up. When I would wake up I'd be covered in sweat and run into my parents bedroom screaming.
The dreams stopped coming after my mom prayed with me about them and the night she did I woke up (or dreamt I did) and I saw 2 men, glowing very brightly. One was seated on the windowsill smiling at me and the other was sitting on top of my canopy bed, looking down and also smiling at me. I felt very safe and peaceful and I honestly have not had a nightmare since. I am 30 years old now.
8... that one seems to have a good ending
Mine was a pretty simple recurring nightmare:
I'd dream I was sleeping, then I fall off the bed (I have a very tall bed), I stay on the floor and hear this roaring coming from underneath, there's this sort of curtain-y thingy around the skirting of the bed, like a table cloth sort of thing so you can't see underneath, I tentatively lift it up. It's pitch black, then this vortex appears and sucks me in.
Pretty lame, I know, but they compound the more often you have them

The one nightmare I will always remember came when I was about 7 or 8. We had come home from visiting the Texas.
I dreamed I was on the battleship (as a child), but it was dark. I was on one of the small turrets on the side of the ship. We were moving, but I couldn't tell if it was water or what. I needed to get to the bridge, my mom was there with a light, but everytime I tried to get into the ship, I couldn't see where I was going. Then something in the depths of the ship started growling. Not a dog kind of growl, but something very big and very pissed off.
I woke up and couldn't move for about 10 minutes. Literally, I was incapable of moving or screaming or anything.
Warning Science Content: When you go to sleep, a part of your brain shuts down. It's the part that sends commands to the rest of your body. If it doesn't shut down, then you might sleepwalk. If it doesn't boot up when you wake up, then you cannot move any voluntary muscles until it reboots.
That's the source of the 'night terrors' and the aliens with the mind rays that keep people from running away.
Needless to say, I didn't know that at the time and came pretty unglued for a few days.

7...Ahh, that would be weird!
Well I have many strange dreams, I'm always scared of what may happen when I dream "off" about ppl I know. Here is one example of why my dreams bother me:
I had this dream about going to my Grandpas house, myself and a few family members were going to visit him (he had died awhile back), anyway in my dream we were going to visit him because his "spirit" had come to his house to see us. He was sitting at the table where he always sits chatting and joking with everyone when I walked in, then of coarse he stood up and hugged me, I told him I missed him and he said not to worry he is much happier now and that he was watching over our family. Well about then a cousin of mine (Mike) walked in, no one had seen him in years b/c he moved out of state a long time ago. Anyway in my dream as soon as he walked in my Grandpa stood up and walked over to him. He took Mike in his arms and said "I am so sorry Mike" and Mike just started sobbing in my Grandpa's arms and there was a light around them.
Now for the really freaky part..I woke up and called my Mom to talk to her about my dream, she told me my Aunt had just called her...Mikes son was found dead by the Mississippi River, he had been murdered!!!
Another strange thing from my dream..the only family members that went to Mikes were the ones that were in the dream.

Nutmeg,
there are always more illicit options, which you've suggested but...

Nutmeg seeds
Main article: Nutmeg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutmeg)
In low doses, nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) produces no noticeable physiological or neurological response. In amounts of 5–20g it is a mild to medium hallucinogen, producing visual distortions and a mild euphoria.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_drugs#_note-1) Use of nutmeg as a recreational drug is unpopular due to its unpleasant taste and its side effects, including dizziness, flushes, dry mouth, accelerated heartbeat, temporary constipation, difficulty in urination, nausea, headache, and panic. A user will not experience a peak until approximately six hours after ingestion, and effects can linger for up to three days afterwards
The effects peak approximately six hours after ingestion, it says, if you had it for dinner and when to sleep immediately after, you may have entered the REM phase of sleep which is required for dreams.

Ok this dream scares the hell out of me
i grew up in a trailer on some land that my dad bought we lived in the trailer while he was building our future house.
so i wake up and is dusk out ( you know when everything has a kinda blue overtone ) theres no one home in the house i walk to the kitchen to get a drink and look out the window over the sink i see coming out of the forest a pack of white wolves running towards the house they have red eyes i run to the door in the kitchen that leads to the deck so i can lock it but the door swings through the frame like its a inch to small to close the wolves reach the door and start pushing on the door snapping and snarling at me while i hold it back then the wolves run for the door at the other end of the trailer i run as well i get there just in time to find that the door on this end does the same thing once again im holding the door while the wolves try to get at me...this repeats back and forth door to door until i snap awake sweating.

okay I have this reacuring team, where i'm in a black-ops team about to take the head of a drug empire. As my team aprohes the commpond we all report an errie feeling. So when we are walking throught the copmound\running quitly, when the girl from fear appears, then the grudge and start to take out my team mates, right as I fire a shot at both of their heads they kill me but I can still see them laughing and destroying the compound.
it is kinda freaky, to say the least I cant sleep for a few days after, and wont go around corners or dark areas unless i'm with friends, Also all the team members are my best friends.

6 because the Grudge was involved.. the rest sounds more like an action movie than a nightmare. hehe Oddly, I never dream until I actually die. It's always trying to get away and seems like it lasts all night.
Okay, 2 for 1 since one is really short...
I tend to have really strange dreams/nightmares that are triggered by outside stimuli while I'm sleeping, especially if I've taken any meds (cold med and such).
1 - I was having mild lower abdomen cramps during my sleep one night, and I incorporated this into my dreams. I dreamed I was pregnant with a baby owl, and it's beak and claws were causing my abdomen pains. I'll never live that one down... ongoing joke in my family.
2 - Very weird... please don't hold it against me. :)
I was sleeping in one morning and someone was mowing grass outside. The sound of the mower evoked the weirdest dream I've ever had. First, I was living in this garage type building made of tin with broken windows. The devil was outside the windows reaching in through holes trying to get me. When I finally came out of the door, the ocean was rising up and flooding the land to my right, and to my left there was a tornado. On a hill in the yard, there was Jesus and a bunch of old people with walkers and wheelchairs. He'd come back and was collecting the people who would go back to heaven with him. I woke up then. How do you even take a dream like that? Heh.
Did ja make it ontah the islahnd?
I liked the first one, that's a flat out 10
The second... hrmm 6
Mine is pretty simple, way back me and my brothers used to play this game called 'The Blob', pretty much you got underneath a doonah and tried to swallow other people, the victims were armed with soft toys and had to score a direct hit on the belly to stop him for ten seconds. I dreamt that I was on the top of out climbing frame, staring at the stars when I saw my brother underneath the doonah crawling over the gate to our house. I stayed on the frame, he kept on coming and eventally reached where I was. He was like a slater trying to climb up a wall, but I could see glaring red eyes from underneath. I fell and that was it.

Just woke up from my newest nightmare. I've coem to realize my nightmares most often are dreams that make me angry more than anything... not really halloween type stuff.
I dreamed I was in the grocery store and saw my mom in there. As I was leaving, I get to my rental car and my mom's car was jammed up against the side of it. (My car is a rental in this dream because I wrecked last week and I'm in a rental right now... in RL, not just the dream.) It turned out my mom was an alcoholic and she ran into the side of my car when parking, and left it there while she went into the store. I went back into the store and asked her about it. This time, I smelled the alcohol on her, and her eyes were all bloodshot and messy. She said, "I've been having a bad day. That's the 3rd or 4th car I've run into today!"
Next thing I did was call 911 to report the accident. I told the 911 operator about my mom and her alcoholism. I recall saying, "I want her punished to the fullest extent of the law... that's the only way she'll stop drinking." The 911 operator was agreeing with me. She was talking to me more like a friend or councelor than a 911 operator.
I woke up before the cops came.

i was mad at my wife for a week after my last nightmare......
i dreamed me, my family, and friends were at the airport waiting to take a fight for an out of state softball game. my wife, son, brother, and mom got on the plane and they told me that i would have to take the next plane. i go back to the lobby and wait with my softball buddies. the plane crashes and i am devestated (i think i was really crying in bed) my WHOLE family, everyone i care about just died on that plane! after a few mins my wife walks into the lobby like nothing happened, i asked her what happened, and she stated that the plane was full and they ask if she would get off and she did. she didnt seem upset or anything that our son just died in the crash. she was acutally treating me very crappy (side note, me and my wife get along great, no hidden message there) all she wanted to do was to buy a tee shirt with a huge pocket on the front from the gift shop! at this point i am very confused with her behavior and ask if we could just go home! we get to the car and my brother is driving and my son is in his car seat and is an infant (he is 3 now). i look at my wife like wtf. we get in and she starts laying into me and cussing like crazy (she usually doesnt cuss). we drive to the desert and then she tells me that she is leaving me for my brother and that i wouldnt ever see her or my son again, then the quote of the dream. she says to me "i just wanted you to see how it felt to lose your whole family twice in the same day!" then she pulls a gun and shoot me. at this point i woke up (3am) and couldnt go back to sleep because i was soooo mad. it was one of those super realist dreams! pretty f'd up!

7 That's pretty harsh.
I have a lot of insane dreams, some are creepy/have me afraid to goto sleep afterwards, others are just plain bizzare, and others keep me in a weird mindset for the entire next day. Here's one of the freakier ones:
So, out of no where, I am alone on some random island covered in trees, and shrowded in fog, not really sure what'd going on, but I have the feeling that I need to find someone. Then, it changes views (happens frequently to me) and there are two people huddled in a ruined house fighting off these waves of zombies, more hiding actually, trying to avoid detection and such. Then it changes views again, and we're going into an underground passage that actually turns out to be some other dimension, and we end up in this house in the middle of a forest. It's a very eerie seen, picture the most desolate/forboding place you can imagine, and that'd what's outside of the house. The inside isn't much better. At this point, there are four of us, huddeling in a room, trying to hid, I am under a desk, and there is someone else next to me, and then two people trying to keep the door closed. Well, the zombies break through and start attacking my friends, they can't find me for some reason, so I'm stuck there watching my friends get mutilated, and then I woke up.
It was much scarier and more vivid than the description lets on, I had a hard time sleeping afterwards.

phew, that sounds awful!!
I dreamed last night that when I went out in the boat to collect samples for work, that they stopped the boat in this awful looking brown seawater, and told me they were ready. "For what?," I said. "you need to dive down to the bottom and collect a mud sample from the bottom." I looked over the side of the boat into the muddy water. I was expected to strip off to my skivvies in front of guys, and free dive 30 feet down, in murky water, in winter. No dive marker, the boat isn't anchored, and as I stare down into the choppy water considering how I got into this mess, a 6 foot brown shark swims by. I look up at my boss, and they are all waiting for me to go in, as if everyone else does it, and they are obviously wondering why I am being such a wimp. As they hand me a weight belt, a cold wind starts to blow, and I realize I am actually afraid to say no, for fear of embarassment. Risk death, or be humiliated. And I was actually thinking about it.
I woke up at 4am.
