i was looking in my tank for some convict fry i'd put in a week ago,
and saw a cluster of white eggs just out of the water.
being an idiot, i poked it and it fell into the water..

they have to be from my mystery snail. its the only one in the tank, unless it cross bred with japanese trap doors or common pond snails, the eggs will be self fertilized or un fertilized?

should i try to keep it out of the water or just let it lay on the bottom?
 
i have pond snails and the only pods out of the water were put at the top of the water line and the water evaperated and i think there all ready fertilized. i would just leave them in there (if you want snails)
 
apple snails AKA mystery snails have a habit of laying eggs on top of the waterline and on the lid, but these snails are not asexual, but they can store sperm for long periods if they do not have a suitable place to lay eggs, for example water line is too high and after enough evaporation takes place they will venture up and lay them. If you pushed them in the water they will not hatch.
 
hey i now have another pod of eggs out of the water and this batch i wont poke with my finger. any idea how long till they hatch?

they are on the 29g i was going to take down so i could put up the 55g but i will wait till the snails hatch first.
 
i heard 3 weeks but i was wrong about the pod so......
 
the apple snail site said: dont let them dry out. how the heck am i going to do that?

the only solution i've figured so far is - when i'm home i take a little syringe and squirt them every 4 hours or so. that doesnt help for the 6 hours i'm sleeping or the 10 hours i'm at work. sounds like some may not hatch. the good news is there are now 4 different clusters of these around the top of the tank.

i am thinking there are to many things in the tank that could devour baby snails. chinese algea eater, jewel cichild and trap door snails.. maybe i should move some, or all of those tank mates out for a while.
 
I think what it means by that is to make sure that there is humdity in the tank with the eggs. As long as you are not in a severely dry climate it may work. If I were you I would let the snails do as they may, and if they hatch yes they are probably going to end up being free fish food. but you may get a couple of survivors as well ;)
 
Snails know what to do. If they lay their eggs at the water line then they probably have a reason. I wouldn't worry as snails breed and breed and breed.....That first batch of eggs may not make it but there will be more. Just be on the watch out when you are cleaning the glass.
