so i removed the xenia from one of my rocks today. when i ripped off the main part of it i saw something smoke-like go into the water. i shoved the xenia against the glass and set off cleaning residual "tissue" off the rock. when i pulled this tissue out it REEKED! i flushed that but now my tank water smells too! what's up with this?
I just heard about that the other day from locals that frag their xenia. They say it stinks to high heaven when it slimes.

well they got that right - yuck! as long as it's normal, it seems to be getting better and nothing in the tank seems to mind. thanks grins

I've always noticed a horrendous stink when I frag mine. It's worse than uncured rock!!!

I nearly puked when I fragged my xenia.

it is some seriously bad smell soccerkids! i really expected to see all my fish start dropping dead it was that bad. but, everyone is fine and i'll be damned that xenia is growing like nothing at all was done to it...

To me, it is like a sweet-putrid smell that doesn't leave you nose once it gets in there. It is nausiating..but the frag results are good. Funny that such a little thing can make such a big stench. Wait till you have a starfish die...OMG it takes the prize for foul.
Really? Mine wasn't that horrible. Now my 3" zebra turbo? PUTRID smell.

I did n't find him for a couple of days...and my daughter said "your tank usually smells like the ocean, but today it stinks". So I went in and did a head count, noticed him missing and started to look. Wow did he go pearshape and smell up the place. It was so bad that when I pulled him and put him in the trash he really stunk up the room.
Ah, when mine injured itself the short in the powerhead and heater took him out so he and the other stock I lost weren't sitting there all that long. :shakehead:

i totally ripped the main part of the sucker off the LR and shoved it under the smaller part that was attached to the rubble piece. i thought i might loose a section of it but it bounced right back and is doing great! now i just need to get in there and move some empty shells away from it as it's grabbing on to some that i thought were far enough away...
We have another glass climbing xenia!
