I was wondering if any IT crowd guys could help me with a problem I've got

In the study area we've got two desktops, both running on the same Microsoft Wireless Multimedia Keyboard 1.0A keyboards and Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0A brand thingies. They both require synchronisation through simultaneously pressing a button on this sort of USB attached hub and the keyboard/mouse. However recently the performance of the two has got to the stage where one can't be used if the other one is being used, i.e. one mouse will work fine but the other will behave erratically, one keyboard can type perfectly but the other only types every second letter etc..

I've tried everything I can do and plumbed the depths of my technological knowledge so I've changed the batteries (duh) and tried to re-sync them independently. It's getting really annoying though, like if my dad's emailing and I'm typing an essay/chatting... we don't want to call in the Desktop Doctor who normally helps us computer-illiterates 'cos it may be a simple solution...

Thanking you pre-emptively

The problem you have is that all Microsoft wireless devices are set to work on a default wireless channel, the "same" wireless channel. What you experiencing here is the two sets of devices trying to use the same channel of the recievers on both computers, hence why your getting the erratic behaviour bewteen both pairs.

The following needs to be done with other wireless receivers over 6 feet away from the one your about to do these steps on.
  • Press the button on the wireless receiver and check that the light on the receiver starts to flash.
  • Press and release the Connect button on the bottom of the mouse or keyboard.
  • Check the green light on the receiver.
  • A permanent green light means the sync was successful. If the light continues to flash, then re-do the connect button on the bottom of the keyboard or mouse.
Repeat the above with both keyboard and mouse and then re-test with it all near to the other computer.

Hope that helps.

Niko

I had a lot of issues with mine too. One thing I was able to find that helped with some of my errors is to make sure that when you change batteries you mash all the keys for awhile before inserting new batteries. It was recommended for the keyboard anyway. I used to lose function in my F keys all the time and my shortcuts would screw up. I also found I had to change the channels quite a bit to keep things functioning normally. I ended up getting rid of both wireless mouse and keyboard, too much trouble.

I'll try it out...
Let's hope it works, thanks alot guys, espec. Niko, very comprehensive :)
