I bought an ADF for my fish tank, but had to move him because it became impossible to feed him due to my part zebra danio/part pig fish. I bought a 2.5g tank for him and ended up hating it because it was so difficult to find decent accessories (filter, heater, etc.), and it was hard to clean efficiently without stressing out the poor little frog. So I decided a 5.5 gallon tank would be much better. :o
Well over $100 (and countless hours of fiddling) later, I am actually very happy with the look/setup of my new tank. It now has 2 (soon to be 4) ADF’s, and is planted. The problem is…what started as a simple project might have turned in to a new challenge with my new plants. The tank has java moss, 4 small java ferns, 2 potted anubias nanas, and a banana plant that I am guessing will not survive with my lighting. The tank has a 25w bulb from Kmart and the substrate is plain sand. I was not planning on messing with CO2 because although I have read quite a bit about it, I still don’t think I understand it completely.
My dilemma now is whether or not I will be able to maintain this tank. I have not dealt with live plants before except for the java moss and an amazon sword that I do nothing with to keep alive in my 10g. If anyone would be willing to offer advice, I would really appreciate it. I know most of my plants are low maintenance but worry about so many in such a little tank. First, I am curious how I should fertilize without special substrate or C02 (what and how often). Can I add something right to the tank water without affecting the frogs? Thanks in advance for any advice, I am really hoping I can keep these plants alive!
