will plants root into sand

Anachris doesn't root, it actually sends off shoots that act like roots. They help to hold it in place. I leave the lead rings around the bunched plants till the shoots bed themselves in the substrate...

As for sand, I have river rock on top of sand. If you look under the aqurium stand and look up at the bottom of the tank, you can see all the roots thru the glass from my crypts and sword. At first I almost screamed, I thought it was spider webs at first, till looked closer and noticed that they are roots... Man that would have been a huge spider to lay webs of that thickness...

But before the addition of the rock, I did have just sand and the plants were fine except for the ocastional sand packing hard. Thats one downfall and the other is that its hard to keep clean. You really notice the fish waste and mulm on the sand when it starts to get dirty.. Thats why I added the rock. I got sick of cleaning the bottom every other day of crap.... Just my 2 cents worth, hope it helps a tad...

Hope this helps a bit about your sand rooting question?
