I've had him for around 2 months and he's huge in my 55. He is a tiger watchman goby. He does not stir any sand nor sift it he comes and swims and grabs food at the middle of the tank. I had one in a old tank and he sifted all day long is it my sand? It's sugar sized sand..:angryfire:

There may be nothing wrong with him.. You could just be feeding him to well.

I agree with the above, i feel the goby is getting all the food it needs from your feeding, rather than going to find it itself from the sand bed etc etc..Nothing to worry about..

your sand may taste like gunk and no one likes eating that.

What goby is it (find the Genus-species, please, as I don't recognize the common name)? Many of the ones commonly purchased as "active" sifters aren't at all. Most of the watchmans simply stay in one tiny area and any sifting is insignificant. If you want something to sift the sand, stick with smaller Nassarius species, Cerithid snails, and, well... bristleworms.

Picture is really blurry, but it looks like a color morph of a yellow watchman to me. As I said earlier, it is unlikely to sift much sand at all. They usually just maintain their burrows, which are small.

Edit--just saw your reply. If they can't find a suitable area, that is what they do.
