Just want thank Len and all of those who helped me out with my first (and I'm sure not the last), crash.

Update:
pH has been steady at 6.8 for 4 days.
kH 5
Phosphates are 2
Nitrates are 10 (according to my Hagen kit).
Plants are growing again and algae seems to have stopped growing. It looks slighty grey in colour now. I'm hoping that's a good sign.

Any idea how long it takes for the algae to disappear?

Scrub it out. In many cases it won't just go away on it's own. But once the tank is balanced it shouldn't come back.
Remember that algae is one of the biggest challenges we all face in this wackadoo hobby, and there will always be a new challenge to face and deal with.
Glad to hear things are better.............
Nitrates are good........
Phosphates.....a bit high.......1.0 is better. But it'll really fluctuate depending on how the plants are using it. P and N are the two to watch................CLOSELY!
