fish trouble beathing??

ive noticed that my jd seems to be having trouble breathing?? or something like that. he looks like he's gasping for air n breathing fast.. doesnt go up to the surface or anything.. so i dont know if its lack of oxygen.. some of my other acaras do the same

getting worried...

What temp is your tank at? Filtration? Size of tank? Ammonia/nitrite and nitrate readings?

the temps at 29c, bio filter
ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 80(mg/L)

if it is the nitrate... how would i lower the levels??

dont panic...just do a 50% water change and then take a nitrate reading..that should help, and if its still to high do more water changes.

ideally.. you should do as many water changes as it takes to keep the nitrates below 20.. a lot of us do around 50% every week. it will take more for you at first probably.
